Roof
This is one of the more overlooked areas of the house that does not get the attention it deserves. The first thing you need to do is to get a ladder and look at the roof. Examine the shingles to make sure that there are none that are missing or damaged. If there is, then you need to take the time and replace the affected area, look at the surface under the shingles and see if there is any visible damage that needs to be addressed on the actual wood of the roof. If there is you may want to call a professional and have them look at this and replace what is needed. Otherwise you can simply replace the damaged or missing shingles yourself.

Gutters
The gutters are another area that is very important in helping to make sure that the home is in as good of shape as possible. Clogged or damaged gutters can lead to rain building up and subsequently damaging the wood of your roof. Look at the gutters and make sure that they are not damaged or clogged. If they are then you need to replace or clean them out to make sure that water runs as it should and does not collect and damage the edging on your roof. If there is damage done, then you need to make sure that you replace the damaged area and anything that surrounds the damaged area.

Landscaping
This may not sound like an area that you need to make sure you look at, but this can be important in helping to avoid any injuries to yourself, your family or anyone that comes over to visit. Things like holes in the yard can actually pose a hidden danger to you if you are not aware of them, be sure to walk the entire property and make note of any areas where there is a hole. Also look at the fence if you have one and make sure that it is in as good of shape as possible, you don’t want damage to your fence as this can pose a security risk to your property. Check and look at the rest of the landscaping to make sure there are no hazards that you might not otherwise see.
