How can a homeowner recognize when a roof has problems? If you leave your roof without maintenance it leads to the deterioration of the original sealant and water leakage in the attic causing.

Insulation in the Attic
There is a lot of attention that is not paid to the attic and the insulation that is in there. You have no idea as to when was the insulation installed and how well it is doing its job. The first thing that you need to do is to look at this and if it is thin or does not seem to be in that good of shape, then take it out and make sure that you replace it as soon as possible. If you live 9in a southern area of the country, you will want to make sure that you have at least six inches of insulation in place and more if you live in more northern areas. Be sure that you look at potential state incentives that may be in place to refund you for a certain amount of your purchase, different states have different programs so be sure to look around.

Hot Water Heater Temperature
Taking and lowering the temperature on your hot water heater down to 120 degrees, yes it is tempting to want to put it at a higher level, but that will in the end lead to your energy bill being higher as it will take more energy to heat the water up. Another reason that you will want to make sure that you don’t use water that is hotter than 120 degrees, is to help and prevent any injuries from happening due to scalding. It has been shown that most people do not use water higher than 120 degrees so your energy costs will for the most part be wasted.

Hot Water Blankets
The use of hot water blankets on the hot water heater is very important in helping to further reduce your energy costs the simple fact of the matter is that when a hot water heater blanket is used, the energy needed to keep the heater at a certain temperature will be greatly reduced. The blanket acts like an insulator that is designed to keep the heat from the heater from escaping and thus you will not increase your energy costs. If you don’t have one of these on your hot water heater, then you need to make sure that you look into the use of this to reduce the energy needed to warm your water.
